manual physical therapy

what can i expect at a manual therapy appointment?

We will perform a comprehensive examination of the musculoskeletal system (muscles, joints and fascia [connective tissue]) to see how the body is working as a whole. Injury, disease and/or surgical intervention affecting one part of the body can directly or indirectly affect another part. We look at the body as a whole unit and work on compensations we have from past injuries, surgeries, etc.

We look to treat the source of the issue; not patching the issue and waiting for it to arise again. The body is capable of compensating for long periods of times without symptoms. Problems begin when the body can no longer compensate and function efficiently. The therapist will screen your spine from base of head to sacrum to check for the area of greatest restriction.

This will help identify the key area that needs to be treated first. We use gentle techniques to help your body re-align, such as muscular contractions and muscle balancing. After we adjust that area, we’ll screen you again until all areas exhibit increased movement (no more hitch in your get-along).

Each person is unique and responds differently to treatment. Some soreness may occur as the body adapts to the changes and increases mobility of the tissues. Additionally, this soreness may also be a result of increased circulation resulting in a detoxification process. Regardless of the result of the soreness, the discomfort usually resolves within 48 - 72 hours.

Drinking plenty of water helps to decrease the soreness. In our experience, most patients receive a 50 - 70% improvement in at least some of their symptoms within 6 visits. We have found that initially a treatment frequency of once every 2 - 3 weeks is most beneficial, and then as the symptoms decrease, the frequency of visits also decreases. Usually the client notices changes in flexibility and/or symptoms within the first 1 - 2 treatments. Duration of relief will normally increase as the number of tight areas decrease. Remember, every client's treatment will be individualized to meet specific needs in response to treatment.

WHERE IT ALL STARTED

Season Swift

Helping people implement healthy habits in a simple way, without overwhelm.

Season Swift, MPT, is a dedicated physical therapist specializing in Sequential Manual Therapy with a private practice in Central Oklahoma. A 2006 graduate of the OUHSC PT program, Season has extensive experience in Outpatient Orthopedics and private practices with a focus on Manual Therapy. Her expertise encompasses chronic pain, craniofacial pain, and spinal mechanics, treating each patient holistically.

Season's training includes almost 20 years of working with and studying under renowned professions in the physical therapy, osteopathic and Myofascial spheres to master techniques such as Muscle Energy Technique, Functional Indirect Release, Cranial Manipulation, Strain-Counterstrain, and Myofascial Release. She caters to a diverse patient population, from infants and teens to adults seeking fitness, wellness, and prevention, as well as athletes from non-competitive to past professionals. Her approach incorporates modalities like exercise, kinesiology taping, and functional cupping to treat the whole patient.

Inspired by her personal experience caring for her grandmother, Bonnie, who battled Rheumatoid Arthritis, Season witnessed firsthand the transformative power of physical therapy. This inspired her to pursue a career offering similar relief and healing to others. Season's holistic health and wellness approach focuses on the interconnectedness of the body's systems, including the fascia system and vagus nerve, addressing root causes of pain and dysfunction for lasting relief.

Season has established a thriving physical therapy practice in Edmond, OK, where she and her dedicated team have helped hundreds of patients improve their health and well-being. Her compassionate care and innovative techniques have earned her a trusted and beloved reputation in the community.

Outside her professional life, Season is equally dedicated to her family. She and her husband, Matt, live on a beautiful homestead in Oklahoma, nurturing a thriving garden and orchard with their two daughters and son, enjoying a close-knit family life.

The Wellness Workshop, born from Season’s desire to extend her holistic healing approach, began as an in-person event for her patients. The overwhelming positive feedback led to its adaptation into an online format, allowing a broader audience to benefit from her expertise. Join the Wellness Workshop today and explore how Season Swift's holistic manual therapy techniques can help you achieve optimal health.
